What our clients value most - and what sets us apart from other media training courses - is the practical interaction we offer with our workshop experts.

We expose our clients to ‘media reality’ as they are interviewed by a senior journalist and producer from a leading metropolitan television station. You are taught, interviewed, assessed, critiqued and then re-interviewed... under lights and on camera.

Our media training contains a strong theoretical base derived from our many years of experience in the media.

We teach it like it is.

Our full-day media skills session covers
  • Strategies on how to deal with the media
  • Interviewing techniques for television, radio and print
  • How to handle the ‘good news’ and the ‘bad news’ interviews
  • How to use the Ball Public Relations interview checklist
  • How to write for news

Clients say they learn more than media skills. They learn to improve the way they communicate and market their businesses. And, most importantly, we help you build your confidence.

Courses

We offer two separate courses:
1. Media skills training workshop:
Interactive media awareness and interview workshops and analysis with two trainers. This course is for groups of six to eight people and requires a full day. An important component of this training is the development of well-founded confidence in front of the camera. It is an intensive workshop suited to organisational leaders and spokespeople who prepare and conduct media interviews.

2. Media awareness session:
Interactive with one trainer and some exposure to techniques but without practical interview workshops or analysis. This session is suited to those in any organisation who would benefit from an understanding of media and who may from time to time support or assist their organisation’s media spokesperson.

All participants receive a bound course manual with detailed notes and a 10-point Media Protocol to help participants set the basis for a solid working relationship with a journalist. Ball Public Relations also offers variants on these courses, which include interview skills role-play specific to a particular issue or project.

Our experience is that group training works best because it enables interactive learning and experience. Our media training can be adapted for smaller groups, one-on-one training or role-play for a specific issue.
