| | Conroy’s Smallgoods’ product recall crisis … In December 2005, the South Australian Department of Health linked two ready-to-eat products from the highly respected smallgoods manufacturer with Listeria monocytegenes bacteria and the deaths of two hospital patients. This and the voluntary recall of all Conroy’s ready-to-eat products in the peak Christmas production and trading period demanded the right media, public and communication response. Media coverage was accurate and invariably supportive throughout the crisis and upon the successful return of Conroy’s products to shop shelves.  |

 | Radio Rentals – pickets, strikes and a lock-out involving SA’s biggest electrical retailer in a sensitive retail environment… Internal, external and media communication before and after a small group of service technicians, all members of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, took protracted strike action in September 2006 over stalled collective agreement talks. The company locked them out in response. The dispute broke out publicly as unions, the ACTU and the Federal Labor Opposition tried to exploit it as part of a national campaign against the Howard Government’s industrial relations reforms. Radio Rentals successfully conveyed its position in the media and to all its audiences. It won tremendous support from employees not involved in industrial action and maintained retail sales – goals it did not achieve in previous disputes.  |

 | Gibbs & Cox and the Air Warfare Destroyer project… Communication strategy development and Federal and State government relations support for naval architects Gibbs & Cox Australia to bid for the $6 billion Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) design contract for the Australian Defence Force. Gibbs & Cox Australia is a wholly-owned subsidiary company of United States ship designers Gibbs & Cox Inc and is part of a team working on the design phase of the AWD project. It has been a catalyst for rapid employment growth in South Australia’s defence industry as well as developing specialist ship design skills in the State for the future.  |

 | Office of the Guardian communicating with Wards of the State ... Management of a project to inform children and young people when they enter care or change placement as Wards of the State. Children and young people need to know their rights, who to go to for help and how to make a complaint. The 2006 project included information about what happens while in the care and protection system, such as in Family Care Meetings and under Court Orders. A feature of the project was consultation and creative involvement of children and young people in the development of strategy, content and design, which featured the OOG (for Office of the Guardian) who appears at left.  |

Earlier assignments in this sector include behavioural change, community education and media advice for stormwater management in the Patawalonga and Torrens catchments.
